Daily Reflection 2 – Front-of-House & Guest Experience

Arianna Vallejo HFT4955

During our study abroad trip at Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort Villages & Spa, I saw firsthand how the many front-of-house departments work together to make sure guests have a great time. Before the trip, I had a general idea of how the Front Office, Butler Service, Loyalty & Travel, and Club Sandals worked. But seeing them in action helped me really realize how difficult it is to coordinate and create service in a high-end resort setting.

Getting to the resort was one of the nicest parts of the trip. When we got off the shuttle, staff members were waiting for us with cold towels to help us cool off. The first greeting, a song, created a good and lasting tone right away. This showed how important first impressions are in the hotel business. It made us feel at home right away, which set the tone for the rest of our stay. The front-of-house workers at the resort also usually seemed nice and pleasant. Their upbeat attitude helped make the place feel warm and friendly, which is important for a pleasant guest experience.

The Front Office crew is responsible for checking people in, welcoming them, and answering their queries. Their professionalism and organization help make sure that guests have a nice start to their journey. Another thing that stood out to me was the Butler Service crew. We didn’t have a butler, but we could see how active they were all over the property. A lot of the butlers rode bikes about the property to quickly serve meals, arrange cabanas by the pool, and help clients who were staying at that level of care. They were always on the go around the resort, which showed how dedicated they are to providing fast and customized service. This kind of service lets guests relax and enjoy their vacation without having to worry about making reservations or planning activities themselves.

Club Sandals also improves the stay by offering high-end services, including private check-in areas, concierge help, and VIP lounge areas. The Loyalty & Travel department also aims to build relationships with guests who come back by remembering their preferences and past visits. These divisions work together by sharing information about clients and making sure that services feel personal and the same throughout the whole stay.

From a management point of view, there are a variety of systems that help keep this level of service up. Training is one of the most important things. Employees need to learn how to execute their tasks, how to talk to other people, how to act professionally, and how to comprehend their own sentiments. The personnel at Beaches Turks & Caicos clearly realized how vital it was to make guests feel welcome and cared for. It’s also necessary for departments to talk to each other so that staff can work together to help guests and share information about them. When everyone on staff is on the same page and knows what’s going on, they can deliver a smooth and personalized experience to customers.

According to the Hospitality Net article “The Benefits of Service Design,” hospitality firms need to plan their service systems properly to keep clients happy and coming back. Making sure that every step of the guest’s experience goes well is what service design is all about. I could see this idea very well when I was at Beaches Turks & Caicos. The friendly staff, the way the many departments worked together, and the warm greeting all showed how effective service design can make a guest’s stay better. If guests feel valued and cared for, they are more inclined to return and tell others about the resort.

If I were in charge of one of the front-of-house divisions, I would always put training and communication for employees first. I would also advise the staff to retain the kind atmosphere that I saw during our stay. Small things, like greeting visitors with a smile when they arrive or making their stay special, like we did, can make a big difference in how they remember their stay. By focusing on both operational efficiency and actual hospitality, managers can keep delivering outstanding experiences for guests.

My trip to Beaches Turks & Caicos taught me a lot about how important it is for employees to work together, design outstanding service, and talk to each other well in order to have a successful stay at a luxury hotel.
