Blog 1 – Pre-departure

Okay, so I’m finally heading to Prague, and I’m so excited! This is one of those bucket-list places I’ve always wanted to visit, and now it’s actually happening. Between the stuff we talked about in the pre-departure meetings and everything I’ve imagined, I’m expecting it to feel like stepping into some kind of fairy-tale city.

First off, I’ve heard the city is just beautiful. I’m picturing those cobblestone streets, the Gothic spires, and these super-colorful, old buildings that make it feel like a storybook come to life. I can’t wait to check out Charles Bridge which is supposed to have the best views, especially if you go at sunrise or late at night when it’s quiet. There’s also the Prague Castle, which is apparently the biggest ancient castle complex in the world. I can’t wait to experience the architecture of the castle that I’ve seen in pictures!

And then there’s Old Town Square, which sounds like it’s going to be such a vibe. They’ve got the Astronomical Clock, which is over 600 years old (how is that even real?), and the whole place just sounds like this buzzing hub of life. I’m already planning to grab a coffee, find a good spot to sit, and just soak in the energy—people-watching is underrated, right?

But let’s be real, I’m most excited about the food. Czech food sounds so hearty and comforting, which is basically my love language. I can’t wait to try goulash, dumplings, and this dish called svíčková—it’s like creamy beef with sauce, and I’m here for it. Oh, and trdelník! You know, those chimney-shaped pastries with sugar and cinnamon? I don’t even care if it’s a touristy thing—I’m 100% getting one. Maybe two.

I’ve also heard their Christmas markets are incredible—lots of fresh food, cool little handmade things, and snacks everywhere. And apparently, Prague has a big café culture, so I’m definitely going to hunt down some cozy spots and try their coffee. I love that kind of chill, local vibe.

Something I’m also curious about is how Prague handles all its tourism. Like, it’s such a historic city, and I imagine it must be a huge challenge to keep all that history intact while still welcoming millions of visitors every year. I think it’ll be interesting to see how it compares to tourism back home in the U.S.

Honestly, I just want to get lost in the streets, eat everything in sight, and soak up every bit of the atmosphere. Prague feels like the kind of place that’ll surprise you in the best ways, and I’m so ready for it.
