During my time in London, I went to many different destination areas. We visited many highlighted historical areas such as Windsor Castle and the Queen’s House. When we went and visited, it felt like I was stepping into a different period. The workers handed out audio tours for people to listen to while walking around so they could experience the entirety of their history. I think using these audio tours is so brilliant, it brings education and storytelling into real life as you walk through preserved halls of history. I think the best marketing strategy they use for these sites is having events! At Windsor, when we visited, there was a huge farmers market going on with live music and so much food and festivities. I think creating not only a historical space but a fun event space brings life to create more history within the walls of these areas. Not only did we visit these amazing landmarks, but we also toured two different beverage facilities. We started off with the Bombay Sapphire Distillery in Hampshire. When we were at the distillery, I learned that a lot of people are curious to know about gin and why Bombay Sapphire may be different from other name brand competitors. Bombay prides themselves in their story; they have it on their website and retells it during the tour, which is centered around the roots of their product. Another interesting thing is that the location of this distillery was just a bunch of land; they used this land in the most respectful and sustainable way, preserving the original older roots of the property and conserving its wildlife and nature aspect, never disrespecting anything. This location is about a mile away from a small town as well. When I asked about how they incorporate locals into their company, they told us about how they try to do local-only events at the local pub and that they made a custom bottle for their anniversary and celebrated with the locals! I think it’s important to note that beverage tourism is especially important, a lot of people don’t realize it but the highest level drinkers always are obsessed with one brand, they might not even know what goes into their bottles, where brands like Bombay they are completely transparent about it all and want to share their roots and story giving a hospitality aspect to their beverage. It makes it all an experience, not just a drink. Not only did we go to these amazing educational places we also went to the Tate’s art museum, the art museum was very interesting! It wasn’t my cup of tea, to be honest, it all felt a bit too modern for me; however, I think it creates a new appreciation for the new history that will continue to grow in the era of our era. My favorite thing that was super educational was the Thames river cruise, though i get very easily motion sick, the announcer was very informative on both sides of the river and made sure to highlight and showcase all of the high points in history that was just buildings to us at first, but they all had some kind of historical meaning! I think having such an interactive piece of history keeps all the guests super engaged in the educational part of tourism, and of course, brings in a bit of humor and keeps it light and enjoyable. It brings a lot of room to have fun with the history that the city has to offer. I think as a future hospitality professional I will be using this as a way to figure out my dreams of owning a bar and creating an experience for my guests that not only bring in education of what kind of alcohol I serve and why, but why I even decided this as my dream and why I need to showcase personality through it’s history.
