Hello, my name is Dale Brochinsky. I just graduated from Florida International University’s Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management with my bachelors degree. I figured the best way to kick off my masters program was with a study abroad. I was interested in the London program when it was offered for summer of 2024. Sadly, it was cancelled, but when I saw that the program was being offered again in 2025, I signed up immediately. In my undergraduate studies, I focused on Human Resources in the hospitality industry, and I plan to continue that in my masters program.
I am thinking that London’s hospitality will feel like a grandma. I am expecting a warm welcome and plenty of things offered. England is known for being one of the more welcoming European countries, and I am expecting to see that on display. As for service culture, without tipping I am expecting a more dismissive attitude than in the States. We are going to be on their time, not the other way around. A stereotype about British hospitality is that they will always offer tea. I am curious to see how popular it actually is.
I think I bring a confidence that I want those in the industry to see. I am always proud to represent my now alma mater and I am excited to do it overseas. I cannot wait to show off how amazing my school is. As for my personal brand, I see it as a professional humor. I want my blogs and vlogs to reflect my sense of humor while also coming across as a good student.
By the end of this trip, I want to take away a few things. Firstly, I want to see if it is possible to take an American hospitality education to London. It is always good to know what your options are in the field. I hope to see a few Americans working in some high positions in London’s hospitality industry. Next, I want to learn about how history influences tourism. London has buildings that are older than countries. It will be interesting to see how that history is used to attract tourists. Lastly, I want a hoodie. I have gotten a hoodie on every other study abroad program, and I will be continuing the tradition in London. Hopefully I will find a nice one, especially since I will probably forget to pack one.
