After a long day and night spent traveling from Miami to Prague, it felt unreal. I had a connecting flight in Spain that I missed, and I briefly lost contact with one of my classmates because we got separated on our way to baggage claim. My classmates and I did find Hailey ….eventually and when we arrived in Prague we decided on what to do since we arrived a day early. I spent my night with my roommate and a couple of my classmates, we walked the streets of Prague aimlessly and I had my first Czech beer.
My first official day was a bit hectic, I stayed with my roommate and arrived a little late for the orientation. I unfortunately had to miss the guided tour of Old Town because one of my classmates got sick and I went back with her to our hotel, which took an incredibly long time because I could not navigate Prague even with a GPS. Before I had to leave abruptly I do remember the cobblestone streets and the gothic architecture. I even saw a horse-drawn carriage which I thought was pretty cool.
I was able to meet up with the group for a traditional Czech dinner which I was so excited for because I was starving. The beef goulash was very flavorful and warm, the duck and dumplings was delicious and I can see why this is a very popular meal in Prague. Compared to the American restaurant experience, the dinner was excellent we were given enough time not only to eat but interact with one another and wind down after such an eventful day. On the first day, I was very excited and in awe of the sites around me. The gothic architecture, statues, cobblestone streets and sidewalks, and the lack of modern buildings are completely different from what you would’ve seen in the US. I’m very excited to explore Prague and make new memories and friends along the way.
