Daily Reflection 2 – Front-of-House & Guest Experience

Analyze how front-of-house departments work together to deliver a seamless guest experience. What interactions or processes stood out to you?

At Beaches, the guest experience is created through the collaboration of several front-of-house departments. Some of those departments are the front office, butler service, loyalty and travel, and Club Sandals. Even though I did not personally have time to shadow these departments on our trip, it was clear that all of them need to work closely together to deliver a smooth, personalized experience for guests.

Furthermore, the front desk is the first essential point of contact for guests and the hotel. They manage check-ins and check-outs and communicate guest details with the other departments. Additionally, butler service helps with events and special reservations, offering guests personalized attention. Also, the loyalty and travel department assists returning visitors. All of them strive to give guests a consistent, customized experience during their stay.

From a managerial perspective, what systems (training, communication, service standards) support consistency and personalization in guest service?

From a managerial perspective, training is one of the most important systems. Staff need to know the service standards, communicate effectively, and handle guest requests professionally. Establishing clear standards also shows employees the kind of service expected in a luxury setting.

Moreover, a very vital system is communication. It is the manager’s responsibility to ensure that requests and guest information are communicated appropriately through their daily briefings and meetings. In the end, when departments share information effectively, the resort can offer smoother, more organized service.

A great example is when we arrived at the resort: the staff took our luggage from the van and checked our names and room numbers. I was surprised that we didn’t even have to point out which bags were ours. The staff already knew and quickly took care of everything. By the time we reached our room, our luggage was waiting for us. It was clear that the different teams worked together to make our arrival as easy and stress-free as possible.

Connect your observations to the assigned reading. How does service design influence guest satisfaction and loyalty?

The Hospitality Net reading explains that service design matters in hospitality because it involves carefully planning and organizing services to enhance guests’ experiences during their stay. Rather than leaving things up to chance, companies plan each part of the guest journey to help guests feel comfortable and satisfied. It will solidify customer loyalty and satisfaction, and guests will receive more individualized attention.

If you were managing one of these departments, what changes or priorities would you consider to enhance the guest experience?

I would focus on improving employee training and communication if I were in charge of one of these divisions. Guests have a better experience when teams communicate and are aware of expectations. Ultimately, the high standards at luxury resorts depend on effective service systems and teamwork.
