“Daily Reflection 1 – Arrival & First Impressions”

During my study abroad experience in Turks and Caicos, I had the opportunity to observe how hospitality operations work in a real resort environment. One of the first things that stood out to me was the welcoming atmosphere created by the staff when guests arrived. From the moment guests enter the property, employees demonstrate a strong passion for hospitality and customer service. This first impression is extremely important because it sets the tone for the guest’s entire stay.

As I continued exploring the resort, I noticed how leadership and staff members actively interacted with guests and worked together to create a positive environment. Seeing managers and staff present in guest areas showed how important visibility and engagement are in hospitality leadership. Their enthusiasm and professionalism helped create a welcoming experience that made guests feel valued and comfortable.

Another interesting part of the experience was seeing what happens behind the scenes. Many guests only see the beautiful areas of the resort, but there is a large amount of work happening in the background to maintain that experience. For example, we were able to observe operational areas related to maintenance and landscaping. These teams play a critical role in keeping the resort clean, organized, and visually appealing. Without these behind-the-scenes departments, it would be difficult to maintain the high standards expected in a luxury resort.

The landscaping and overall design of the resort also stood out to me. The property is carefully maintained with gardens, pathways, and outdoor spaces that create a relaxing environment for guests. This showed me how important the physical environment is in hospitality, since the surroundings contribute to how guests feel during their stay.

Overall, this experience helped me better understand how many different departments work together to deliver a high-quality guest experience. Hospitality is not only about providing a place to stay, but also about creating memorable experiences through service, teamwork, and attention to detail. Observing these operations in person gave me a deeper appreciation for the work that goes into running a successful resort and reinforced my interest in pursuing a career in the hospitality industry.
