On the final day of my visit to Prague, a classmate and I explored the city together, creating some of the most amazing memories. We visited the highest mountain in Prague, where we enjoyed a breathtaking view of the city. We also stopped by the Astronomical Clock in Old Town, climbing all the way up for a stunning view of the town and the Christmas market. During our visit, we received a guided tour detailing the clock’s history and even got access to restricted areas that not everyone gets to see.
We also visited the John Lennon Wall, a historical site that served as a symbol of free expression during communist Czechoslovakia. It was fascinating to learn about how John Lennon inspired and gave hope to the Czech people during those challenging times. Afterward, we walked across the iconic Charles Bridge, visited the nearby crafts market, and enjoyed both the picturesque views of the bridge and some fantastic local food.
This trip gave me a new perspective on the struggles many countries face under communism and the resilience required to recover from oppressive regimes like the Nazis during World War II. The Czech Republic has shown tremendous potential since gaining its democracy, and it makes me wonder how different things might have been for the country if it had not experienced such hardships. I learned so much about history, tourism, and the hospitality industry that the Czech Republic offers. It was truly an unforgettable experience that has shaped me as a hospitality student.
Additionally, I had the privilege of meeting amazing people with whom I hope to maintain lasting connections. Each one of my classmates brought unique qualities and shared the same passion for learning about the history and hospitality of the Czech Republic. This bond will remain special to all of us as we reflect on the incredible experiences we shared.
I would certainly love to participate in another study abroad program, continue exploring Europe, and revisit the Czech Republic. This trip was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will always cherish.
