I was lucky to be traveling with two other students here, which made the trip easier since I wasn’t alone. My parents were able to drop me off and will be picking me up, which makes it even easier for me to do this trip, without worrying about my car or even getting an uber home. Even though my layovers were on the longer side, I was really lucky to be with two other students to pass the time. I’m also glad that going home I will be with the same students and we will have shorter layovers. I’m super excited to learn and see more with the rest of the trip, and am super thankful for all the new friendships I have made in that last two days.
Exploring leadership and hospitality differences between Prague and the USA reveals unique cultural approaches shaped by history, tradition, and societal values. When it comes to hospitality, Prague reflects a more understated and authentic approach. Service is polite, efficient, and professional, but avoids over-the-top enthusiasm or intrusiveness. This reserved style aligns with cultural norms that value quality, tradition, and a sense of genuine experience. By contrast, hospitality in the USA prioritizes a highly guest-centric approach, focusing on exceeding expectations with personalized, enthusiastic, and often highly interactive service. Convenience, luxury, and customer satisfaction are central to the American experience, where tipping also plays a key role in motivating exceptional service. These cultural differences can create challenges in cross-cultural interactions. For example, Americans may interpret Prague’s reserved leadership or hospitality style as indifferent, while Czechs might perceive U.S. enthusiasm as insincere. However, both approaches offer valuable strengths—Prague’s focus on authenticity and pragmatism complements the U.S. emphasis on innovation and customer satisfaction. Understanding these nuances can bridge cultural gaps, allowing for a more effective blend of leadership and hospitality practices in an increasingly globalized world. I think that both places have a really different and unique way of showing hospitality and tourism, which makes different places stand out, which makes you want to travel to them to get those different experiences.
