I can’t believe the adventure to Prague is finally here! I have been waiting all semester for this trip as soon as I saw it posted on FIU education abroad Instagram, it was between Prague and Dubai, and I know I made the right decision. I’ve been dreaming about this trip for so long, especially because my parents have been to Prague twice (sadly they never could take me with) and always made me so jealous with their stories and photos. They’ve told me all about the city’s charm, beautiful architecture, and amazing food, especially the Chimney cakes. I got to try them in a German festival in Alabama but now I get the real deal, so now it’s my turn to experience it all for myself.
But one of the things that really excites me is a visit to the famous Christmas markets. My parents always say it is so magical with the lights and the atmosphere, and now I cannot wait to see it with my own eyes. In pictures it looks like a real life Santas North pole shop, with all the wooden shops and beautiful lights.
Me being a cold weather lover, hahah thanks to my Russian roots, I’m so ready to bundle up and explore Prague’s cobblestone streets, hopefully I will get to enjoy some snow while we are there. A dream comes true. For me the Old Town is going to be a dream with its architecture and all the famous places. I can’t wait to see the Astronomical Clock, Charles Bridge, and all the historical landmarks my parents have told me about. I have such high expectations, but I know it will live up to it!
This trip also means that I will be having the job of running our class’s Instagram account, which is something I am so excited for, just thinking about sharing the best moments of our adventures, from trying traditional Czech food like goulash to finding hidden corners of the city, feels like a perfect way to document everything and keep everyone back home in the loop. I know Prague is so photogenic because of what I have seen before so I know I will never be out of material. So y’all please share all your photos and favorite memories so I can share with everyone back home!
This study abroad experience is a chance for me to immerse myself in a new culture (just like I did in Japan) learn from the city’s rich history and see how Prague creates such memorable experiences for travelers from all over the world such as myself. This is going to be a little different for me school wise because I am Majoring in Sports Managment, but I am excited to experience the study of Hospitality and Tourism. I was able to be a part of the Honors College study abroad trip to Japan, and it was life changing. I hope this experience in Prague will be the same.
I am so excited about this trip, because, finally, I will live all those Prague stories that my mom and dad have been telling me, my stomach has been craving for this trip and those beautiful Chimney Cakes, and I also know it’s going to be a time of huge learning, fun, and growth. Stay tuned for updates here and on Instagram, as I’ll be sharing the best moments!
Can’t wait to meet everyone!
