The fact that I’ll be in Prague in just a few days is so exciting. Not only is this my second time studying abroad with FIU, but this will be my second time traveling to Europe! The last study abroad program I did was during the summer, and we went to Greece, so it was very hot. I’m happy that this time around, I’ll be going to Europe during the winter season, especially to a country where it is in fact going to be cold and there could possibly be a chance of it snowing. Before heading into Prague, I will be spending a day in Paris, and I’ll be there with some other students who are also going on this study abroad trip. I’m very excited for this opportunity to get to spend extra time in Europe before heading to our main destination, and I expect to make the most of my day in Paris by checking out some iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. I’ve already got tickets to go to the Louvre Museum!
Based on the predeparture meeting, the only expectations I really have for this trip are that it will be a great cultural experience and it will be a place to learn about different types of tourism, specifically dark tourism. I’m not sure which sites in Prague will count towards dark tourism, but I hope we get to find out. As for preconceived ideas of Prague, there isn’t anything that comes to mind if I’m being honest. I originally wasn’t planning on doing another study abroad program this year, and so applying to do this one was definitely an impulsive decision. When I did hear about the program, I did not know much about Prague. Now after having done some research and looking at the itinerary, I look forward to seeing attractions such as Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, and the Astronomical Clock. I am also so excited for the Christmas market! From the pictures I saw, it looked so magical with the big Christmas tree and all the lights so I can’t wait for the day we get to check that out. I expect it is going to be very cold as well, so I’m already prepared with all my winter gear. Sweaters, earmuffs, gloves, you name it. Now it’s time to get packing!
