Blog 1/ pre-departure

By December 11, 2024Hospitality in Prague

When I think about my expectations based on a predeparture meeting and my preconceived ideas of Prague, I anticipate a rich cultural experience, with the city’s medieval architecture, charming old town, and iconic landmarks like Prague Castle and Charles Bridge. I imagine it as a vibrant city that blends modern and historical influences, offering a unique atmosphere. I expect the cost of living to be more affordable than in other European capitals, especially when it comes to food, transportation, and accommodation, though I know this can vary depending on the area. I also worry about the language barrier, assuming that English might be difficult to use outside tourist areas, but I’ve heard that Prague has a high level of English proficiency, especially in the central parts of the city. I am also a little nervous about flying, for the first time without my family, to a whole different country. But I am super excited for this trip. I look forward to experiencing a high quality of life, with plenty of green spaces, efficient public transport, and cultural activities, making it an attractive place for both tourists and expats. I’ve heard the weather can be cold in winter and mild in summer, but also a bit grey and rainy during fall and spring. I’m excited to try traditional Czech dishes. Lastly, I have some expectations about the local social norms, assuming Czechs may be reserved and there might be certain etiquettes regarding tipping and socializing. While these expectations and preconceived ideas shape how I prepare for my time in Prague, I know it’s important to stay open-minded and ready to discover the nuances of the city beyond my initial assumptions. I am super excited for the Prague Castle, the Christmas market, as well as meeting and developing good relationships with my fellow classmates on this trip
